Digitally supported stress-coping

Today, digital technologies and media, in particular smartphones, make it possible to stay in permanent contact with other people, to inform oneself at any time about events worldwide, and make life easier for many people. However, they can also become a burden and cause digital stress, which is a major topic in the research association. This project takes a somewhat different approach and elaborates on the question of how the diverse data arising from the use of a smartphone or connected devices, such as a smartwatch, can be used to respond more specifically to the users’ mood, emotions and stress experience. The focus here is on giving people feedback and suggestions via the smartphone on how they can adapt their behavior in such a way that stress is avoided and a better handling of stress is possible. To achieve this, this project is developing an intelligent assistance system that captures and interprets stress in real-time, thus preventing the development of stress and supporting its coping. In order to check whether the assistance system effectively contributes to coping with stress, there will be the possibility to test the system at several points in the project.
